On Thursday, fourth-grade students performed what they have learned in history, which covers 1,000 years of European events. It begins right before the fall of Rome, which happened in 476 AD and continued past the discovery of the New World to the reign of Queen Elizabeth. Their study began where 3rd-grade left off and prepares them for 5th-grade, where they will be learning about the exploration and settlement of the “new” lands. Much of this history is the history of God’s church through the ages. Fourth-graders began studying Augustine in 386 AD and watched how the church became the center of political and social life in Europe. Unfortunately, as usually happens, sin brought unbiblical practices that needed to be changed, and God used many men like William Tyndale and Martin Luther to reform His church.
