Have you ever wondered what would happen if you started digging a hole in the ground and kept digging until you reached the center of the Earth?
The third grade demonstrated their knowledge of the layers of the earth by constructing clay models. Red is the inner core believed to be solid nickel and iron. Orange is the outer core, which is liquid metal and makes the earth magnetic. Yellow represents the mantle which is made of “plastic rock” and has the properties of both a liquid or a solid depending on the amount of pressure placed upon it. The final brown layer represents the crust. This is where we live, it is made of rock and loose material.
