In chapel last Friday, Pastor Ryan Gold called attention to the 500-year anniversary of the Reformation by visiting Arma Dei Academy playing the part of Martin Luther. Luther is best remembered as a religious pioneer, but he also reformed education in Germany. Many of Luther’s ideas about curriculum and education anticipated the philosophy of classical Christian education. He insisted on recognizing the authority of Scripture and that children be taught Bible from a very young age.

As a classical Christian school, Arma Dei Academy stands in a tradition of schools that heard and responded to Luther’s appeal for educational reform and biblical literacy. Our students are encouraged to live purposely and intelligently in service to God and others. We acknowledge today our debt to Martin Luther, his courage, his commitment to Christ, and his pioneering spirit.
