In chapel last Friday, Pastor Ryan Gold called attention to the 500-year anniversary of the Reformation by visiting Arma Dei Academy playing the part of Martin Luther. Luther is best remembered as a religious pioneer, but he also reformed education in Germany. Many of Luther’s ideas about curriculum and education anticipated the philosophy of classical Christian education. He insisted on recognizing the authority of Scripture and that children be taught Bible from a very young age. The first grade chronological study of history includes an overview of early American history and an introduction to Colorado state history. For their Fall field trip, they experienced a taste of days long past at the Highlands Ranch Mansion for Highlands Ranch Days. They talked with a Native American dancer, took pony rides, toured the mansion, and much more. The first grade classes also panned for gold at the Four Mile Park and had pockets full of treasures. Their day of fun ended with a delicious gelato dessert from the Johnson family.

At Arma Dei Academy the education of our students and the community of our families go hand-in-hand. That's why we are so thankful for events like our All-School BBQ on Sunday. We enjoyed fellowship, food, fun, and an amazing race!

In the past few days, we've heard more and more about the staggering amount of rain in South Texas. Preliminary results indicate some parts of Texas have now surpassed 50" of rain in the past week, and Hurricane Harvey holds the dubious distinction of being the biggest rainfall event in the continental 48 states. The resulting devastation is widespread across the "Coastal Bend" region of south Texas, from Corpus Christi to Houston.
